A really beneficial resource which we hope to release in the next couple of months is a list of the products in use by law firms in South Africa. So exactly how will this list benefit the profession? From what we see, law firms often make the wrong choices when purchasing new products. By seeing what hardware and software similar-sized firms are using, law firms will be able to make safer purchasing decisions. We encourage you to complete and submit this questionnaire which tells us what products are installed at your firm. Enter "none" if you do not make use of a system.

Branches :: Select the regions where you have branch offices.
 
 
Practice Management or legal accounting :: This is the accounting system/practice management system the firm uses. If you have multiple branches, select the package that is used the most.
 
 
Conveyancing software :: If you use more than one system, please check the one most used.
 
 
Debt recovery software :: The software used to manage your debt collections department
 
 
Deceased Estates software :: Used to manage deceased estates
 
 
Document management software :: To manage your electronic and/or physical documents in the office.
 
 
Digital dictation systems :: This is the software that types as you speak, or allows you to dictate via your computer or digital dictaphone. It is not the physical device.
 
 
Preferred desktop computers :: Select the manufacturer which is used mostly, or another way to decide, if it you were to order a few new computers, which would you buy?
 
 
Preferred printers :: Select the one most used, or preferred.
 
 
Copiers :: Please make use of the "Other" comments section below to advise if you are using an "All-in-one" printer, copier and scanner.
 
 
 
Internet service provider :: These are the companies that connect you to the internet, normally after the Telkom line is installed. Known as your ISP.
 
 
CRM or marketing software :: Used to store, manage all your customers, and then help market to them, either via email or by post.
 
 
Document accounting solution :: Also known as Cost recovery, where a system manages your costs like photocopying, telephone calls, and often automatically posts them through to the appropriate account on the accounting system.
 
 
Document assembly :: Used to manage your company precedents, and allow paralegals to simply select templates to complete standard documents, instead of retyping each new document.
 
 
Anti-Virus software :: Please select the software used most often, and also ensure this is the software that protects your desktop systems.
 
 
Deeds Office search software :: Also used to search CIPRO, credit bureaus and other legal related searches.
 
 
Word processor software :: If you are still using DOS word processors, please send us a comment with the details.
 
 
Switchboard :: Normally the name is on the switchboard console.
