Hi Adriaan

Let me look into it and see what I can find.

I have done an article on the ALT numbers for readers this week, which I'm sure will help everyone anyway.

Thanks Malcolm, that is one way of working with the Alt key, but I'm looking for a way to set my keyboard layout so that I can press Alt and a relevant letter on my keyboard to get the same result. This saves time and is easier to remember. Do you know of such a solution? I currently have the Afrikaans keyboards and the South African keyboards installed, but none of them work in the desired way. Is there a way to customize a keyboard layout so it works as I prefer?

Thanks for your help! It is greatly appreciated.

Hi Adriaan

Good question.

When using Word, use the Number Pad and hold down the "Alt" key. To get "ê" type in Alt 136 etc.

To get a list of characters available go to this web address:

How do you set the keyboard to make ALT + R = ê and ALT + E = ë and ALT + P = ô, and so forth?

I had this on my previous computer but I do not understand how to get my new one to act this way.

I am personally not a fan of the dead keys solution. I really liked the Alt + key version and I'm really used to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
