XpressDox recently released Version 4 of its ground-breaking document assembly system to beta testers."For the first time, browser access to templates is included with the Desktop product for Microsoft® Office Word. This means that XpressDox users who wish to run templates while away from the office - for example, while on a business trip or while working from home, can now do so without having to purchase an expensive web-server version of the software.
"Each XpressDox Desktop version now includes twenty free assemblies monthly at no extra charge, which is ideal for users who need part-time access to templates via the web," said Chris Pearson, CEO of XpressDox."What is remarkable about this is that the same templates are used for both the Desktop version and the Browser version," said Peter Tuffin, head of XpressDox development. "This means that all of the powerful commands available in the Desktop version are also available in the web-server version, and also that template authors don't waste time developing templates on two different platforms," he added. Another development in version 4 is that templates can even be run on PDAs such as the Apple® iPad. For large firms looking to implement their own XpressDox Server in-house, the pricing for the on-premise server is extremely competitive. "The advantage of deploying templates on the Web is that no software needs to be installed on each user's computer, which saves time. Also, new or updated templates are instantly available to all authorised users of the system," said Pearson. "This addresses one of the major drawbacks of implementing an enterprise-wide document assembly system, which is that it takes so long to implement the software, and to roll out templates to all users," he added. Another exciting feature in the new version is that XpressDox now works with Open XML, which facilitates integration with most content management systems such as Interwoven WorkSite as templates are now saved in the industry standard .docx or PDF format used by Microsoft® Office Word 2007 and 2010. It also means that all of the new functions in the latest version of Word are fully supported. The official release of Version 4 is planned for the end of December, 2011.
