The New York Times' Randall Stross has a story this morning about 'Sifting the Professional From the Personal' when it comes to social networks. Attorneys and other professionals have gravitated towards LinkedIn because it is 'professional.'
I believe that a professional should not keep their social and business lives separate. Clients usually like to know more about the person they are entrusting with their finances, estate, and so on. But, be warned, more clients can be lost than gained if a professional makes silly comments, uses bad grammar or constantly updates their status with irrelevant and boring details. The platform needs to be used wisely and not at 2.00 a.m. after a night on the town!
