Legal Tech Talk 2024 - another week in

Brought to you by – AJS | DocFox | e4 | LegalServe

There’s something about a road trip that has us all smiling from ear to ear – you get to see the beautiful country we live in, get to meet new people (and get to reconnect with long time clients that you haven’t seen in a while), and you get to make new memories. Great memories if you’re lucky.

These past two weeks have been all that and then some. Travelling the length and breadth of our country talking about the future of law has taught us one thing – the legal profession, once slow to change and stereotypically adverse to technology and the connotations it holds – lawyers and their books, papers, precedents and stare decisis are old, antiquated and have no real place in the shiny, streamlined, minimalist future where everything moves at the speed of light – well the stereotypes and the connotations, couldn’t be more wrong.

The legal professionals we have met (and those that we already know) are excited about the future, especially the future of law. They are eager to streamline their practices and workflows. They are thrilled at the prospect of using technology to make their practices run more smoothly, in a way that appeals to the younger generation. You know the TikTokers and Instagrammers, the Millennials, the Gen Zer’s – the prospective clients who expect their lawyers to offer more than just billable hours and a call once a week.

The future of law has got lawyers drunk with excitement because maybe just maybe, if they play their cards right, if they incorporate the things into their practices that they heard about at the Legal Tech Talk 2024: Executive Innovation Breakfast maybe they too can future proof their law firms and meet the future head-on, ready for whatever the next couple of years throws at them. Because they’ll be armed and prepared for it with the right tools at their disposal.

And seeing the proverbial “light” come on as attendees realise the benefits of what our speakers had to say, has been the most fulfilling experience we could have imagined.

How it went down

Tuesday the 15th of October saw our team in the Jacaranda lined streets of Pretoria – the administrative capital, and seat of the executive branch of government. It was once again an early, crisp start in the purple city and yet the who’s who of the Pretoria legal community attended the event, bright eyed and bushy tailed, eager to learn everything they could about the future of law. The lush greens of the Pretoria Country Club provided a picturesque backdrop to what was a wonderful day out of the office networking, learning and opening our minds to what could be. And the speakers? Well, they shined as they have done time and time again.

The following morning found our team waking up in an overcast, chilly Johannesburg, headed bright and early to the Bryanston Country Club for another momentous morning of coffee, breakfasts and the future of law. But the chilly morning soon turned warm with buzz and excitement as the Joburg legal community descended on the Bryanston Country Club. Colleagues, peers, acquaintances, and frenemies all mingled excitedly, taking the time to network with the various service providers, eager to learn everything they could on legal tech and the future of law. There were also multiple raffles that took place making for an extremely exciting interlude – the winners couldn’t have been more chuffed! The speakers, as per usual, nailed it – however it must be said that having a large, highly engaged audience helps! Joburg – you were such a gem! It was an absolutely fantastic day had by all.

The week of events ended in Bloemfontein on Thursday the 17th of October at the historic Ramblers Club. In fact, Ramblers happens to be the oldest sports club in the Free State, having been established in 1896 by tennis player Gustav Fichardt. Ramblers, as one might expect, exudes old-school charm with a touch of grandeur and felt like the perfect place to host the penultimate Executive Innovation Breakfast. The food as one might expect from a landmark of this pedigree, was decidedly scrumptious. The audience was engaged and involved and the speakers – once again on their A games – brought the heat! It was a wonderful way to close off the week.

As we head into the third and final week of events, we only have one more breakfast to look forward to. This time we are headed to the Mother City, to Cape Town and will be lucky enough to be holding the final Executive Innovation Breakfast at the D’Aria Winery on Wednesday the 23rd of October. We look forward to welcoming the Capetonian legal community to the breakfast where we will, for the last time, get to meet new faces, catch-up with old friends, enjoy a delicious breakfast in a beautiful setting where our speakers will be able to share their thoughts and ideas on the future of law. We hope that you will join us, for one last time. Bookings for Cape Town are almost closed, so if you haven’t booked yet, book today!

As a reminder, registration is at 07:00 and the event should conclude by midday. Come join us for one last rumba!

We think it’s safe to say that the Legal Tech Talk 2024 Executive Innovation Breakfasts have been a success story. Marvellous days outside the office, where attendees have all gained valuable insights from industry leaders, have all been able to explore innovative solutions and have all had the pleasure of networking with peers, colleagues, acquaintances and frenemies. Most importantly all those that have attended the events have taken decisive steps to propel their law firms into the future. And that’s what this has all been about – getting your firms future ready!
