Acer has discovered that certain models of the Acer Aspire range, prior to 15 September 2009, melt the casings on the left hand side of the notebook, due to a faulty mic cable. The notebook model numbers that are affected are: AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG.
Acer reports on their recall page that “As a result, the unit? case may become deformed and the system may malfunction.” – in my book a notebook has to get very hot for the casing to become deformed!
To find the serial numbers turn the notebook upside down and check the serial number label that looks like the following.
If your Acer Aspire has the above model number, you can go to the Acer site, and enter your full serial number to check whether your Acer notebook needs to be sent to Acer for the repair to be done.
