WOZA 2020 Awards

WOZA Women in Law Awards is the first awards program recognising and celebrating the outstanding accomplishments and achievements of women in Law. This year Women from SOUTH AFRICA & THE AFRICAN CONTINENT are invited to participate in the prestigious awards echoing the WOZA motto: 

  “TO NOMINATE IS TO CELEBRATE”.

We invite:

  • Women lawyers in law firms
  • Law firms
  • The private sector – employing women lawyers or women lawyer directors of a business
  • The NGO sector
  • Academia
  • Government & State-Owned Enterprises
  • Final year students & candidate legal practitioners,

to nominate candidates in the following categories: 

NOMINATION CATEGORIES 2020

A.THE AFRICAN LAW FIRM OF THE YEAR 

An international law firm with a foothold in Africa, who has made significant strides in the Development of women in law, whether it is in its women staff development and or Corporate SocialResponsibility in women led businesses and or training and development programs. 

B. LAW FIRMS:

SIX WOZA awards presented to Law firms in recognition of its leadership in fostering an inclusive environment for women lawyers:

AFRICA

A WOMAN ONLY law firm of the year (0 to 5years in practise) 

A Law Firm who has 5 women lawyers or less

A Law Firm who has 6 women lawyers or more 

SOUTH AFRICA

A WOMAN ONLY law firm of the year (0 to 5years in practise) 

A Law Firm who has 5 women lawyers or less

A Law Firm who has 6 women lawyers or more 

C. INDIVIDUALS

Most of the categories below are areas of practise dominated by male lawyers. Nominations of candidates and identifying women in law in these various categories, teases out those women who have penetrated the walls of domination.

WOZA awards are presented to an individual woman who displays outstanding performancein one or more of the categories below: (Maximum of two nominations maybe submitted under the Individuals category. Access www.woza.today for the nomination process and criteria).

24. THE MALE CHAMPION OF CHANGE AWARD

The Male Champion of Change Award is dedicated to a man of vision, committed to the elevation and acceleration of gender diversity within an organisation, business, society, nationally or internationally recognising and advancing the ta- lents and power of women in leadership fostering gender balanced leadership and equality. 

G. PINNACLE AWARD

25WOZA awards the WOZA PINNACLE AWARD to a woman lawyer who displays iconic achievement embracing thought, innovation, leadership, empowerment of other women and contribution to the law. A woman who is distinguishable from the listed individual categories above, because she exemplifies leadership and regarded as a trailblazer.

WHO CAN BE NOMINATED?

  1. Anyone can nominate, colleagues, peers, staff, friends, family, clients
  2. Nominations are restricted to two category nominations per candidate
  3. Nominators who are nominating in multiple categories must complete a separate nomination form per category and provide separate copies of their curriculum vitae and letters of motivation for each category
  4. All nominations must be emailed to wozaawards@gmail.com

NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS

All nominations submitted shall include the following three documents:

The nomination form: 
Specifying the award category, province, be duly signed by the nominator and must be accepted by the nominee; 

A cover letter: 
Motivating why the candidate is eligible for the award, limited to an A4 page;

An abridged curriculum vitae:
The nominee shall outline all experience and achievements relevant to the category demonstrating why she/the firm is the best candidate for the award, and only post qualifications required, limited to two A4 pages.
