Claude-Beta-for-Word

Claude for Word is a beta add-in that brings Claude directly into Microsoft Word, currently available to Team and Enterprise plan users. It supports Word on the web, Windows (Microsoft 365, Version 2205 or later), and Mac (version 16.61 or later), but not iPad, Android, or older perpetual licenses.

The add-in’s core capabilities centre on document interaction and editing. You can ask Claude questions about your document and receive answers with clickable citations, edit selected text while preserving existing formatting, and use a tracked changes mode so every AI-suggested edit appears as a revision you can accept or reject in Word’s native review pane. Claude can also work through comment threads autonomously, handle counterparty redlines by summarising what changed and flagging concerns, fill document templates while matching existing styles, and locate thematic content through semantic search rather than simple keyword matching. It also integrates with Claude for Excel and PowerPoint, allowing cross-document workflows within a single conversation.

On the data and privacy side, inputs and outputs are automatically deleted within 30 days, and chat history is not saved between sessions. Notably, audit logs and custom data retention settings are not yet supported in this beta.

The main risks to be aware of involve prompt injection attacks, where malicious instructions hidden in externally sourced documents could trick Claude into modifying content or exposing sensitive data. For this reason, the add-in should only be used with trusted documents. More broadly, it is not recommended for final client deliverables, litigation filings, or audit-critical work without thorough human review.
