24 October, Illovo/Johannesburg (8h00-16h45) – 2nd CCASA Legal Tech Day
Building on the success of last year’s first Legal Tech Day which demonstrated a wide range of Legal Tech applications by way of product demos, this year’s Legal Tech Day will look at “Integrating tomorrow into today – the legal tech journey”.
From creating a digital strategy, conceptualization to implementation, speakers and panelists with diverse backgrounds will focus on practical aspects and considerations relevant to the Legal Tech journey. The day will be opened by Akiva Beebe, Regional Director Sub-Saharan Africa at the Centre for Creative Leadership who will talk about “Unpreparedness for digital transformation” followed by “Pre-Mortem Experience: Identify the biggest risks that could kill your future success and tactics to overcome them”.
After this highly interactive session, we will experience the world of AI by being introduced to Project Debater, a project of IBM Research Labs. Project Debater is the first AI system that can debate humans on complex topics. The goal is to help people build persuasive arguments and make well-informed decisions.
After the coffee break and in the conceptualization block, together with a panel of in-house counsel and consultants we will look at technology enablement and the corresponding task of building the business case. Marietjie Botes, Director Visual Law Lab, will facilitate a session on “Legal Design Thinking – rethinking the process” before lunch. After lunch, a panel of in-house counsel and consultants will discuss “Bridging the gap – sharing and integrating of technology and data between in-house and external counsel”, followed by Rian Schoeman, Head of Legal and Compliance at LAWTrust, who will talk about “The legalities of electronic signatures”.
This session will be followed by a closer look at the latest ideas and aspects of knowledge management by Lynelle Bagwandeen, Group Company Secretary and General Counsel at Netcare, before concluding the day with a session on E-Learning – leveraging technology to drive change and compliance, delivered by Lenka Strick, an experienced online learning consultant.
Similar to last year, attendees will have the opportunity to experience a number of solutions live as part of a small exhibition. In addition, all exhibitors have been given the opportunity to share additional informational material electronically afterwards.
