How one start-up aims to disrupt the way South Africans move

Semi-gration and micro-moves are increasing by the day, but the experience of moving hasn’t changed much in the last few decades. Until now, that is.

One South African start-up is disrupting the space with their innovative new moving platform.

According to CEO and co-founder Chanté Venter, Wise Move found a real gap in the market when it came to changing the way we move homes and furniture. “Wise Move was created to solve a problem. Many industries have gone digital, but the moving industry hasn’t really found a solution yet. So that’s how Wise Move was born,” says Venter.

From Humble Origins To Thriving Startup

Like many inspiring tech start-ups, Wise Move began in a humble home office back in 2017 and is quickly becoming the “Uber of Moving” with a twist. The platform essentially serves as a marketplace for independent moving companies, where they can reach more clients, easily send out quotes and grow their businesses – all while clients get better service and better prices.

If you have a tricky piece of furniture to get from point A to point B, need to move into a new home, or simply want to sell a large item on a platform like Junk Mail or Gumtree, you can find an instant quote from a vetted mover in minutes. As soon as you’re satisfied with a proposal, you can manage the entire process from end-to-end online. (There’s even an option to choose a no-contact removal from outside of your property, so that movers never need to enter your home or office at all).

The company has completed thousands of moves since their launch and South Africans are loving it. It’s available nationwide, so no matter if you’re in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban or Gqeberha – they’ve got you covered. “Wise Move has taken all the pain points of moving (often one of the most stressful life events), and flipped them into some of our greatest strengths in terms of a complete solution,” says Venter.

“Our support is world class, our pricing is fair and transparent, all our reviews are from verified completed deliveries and our user experience is seamless.”

Wise Move takes safety extremely seriously and does careful verification before allowing any movers on the platform. They also use several cutting-edge solutions to ensure that the entire process runs as smoothly as possible. “We use a variety of proprietary technology, tools and AI to create a seamless user experience. Everything on the site is bespoke and has been designed specifically to make it easier for our users to find the best moving services.”

Uniquely Tailored to the SA Market

Wise Move also takes great care in helping movers promote their small businesses and are exploring niche moves. “Moving isn’t just about moving from one home to another. We’ve helped customers move delicate antiques, items sold on Gumtree or Junk Mail, or just tricky items that you simply can’t get to their final destination without assistance, like boats or pot plants.”

They’ve recently partnered with MyProperty to help users find out what their moving costs will be when buying a new home or before moving to a new rental.

Venter believes that the company has grown so rapidly because they understand the unique challenges of moving in South Africa. “Finding a moving company isn’t all that hard, but finding one you can trust and at a fair price – that’s where the tricky part comes in especially in South Africa. Finding that sweet spot between a great price and excellent reviews is where Wise Move comes in. One request gets you all the information you need to make the right decision for your needs.”
