MIT just released a study that should terrify every law firm leader who has been treating AI like a fancy spell-checker. According to research using the Iceberg Index, a labor simulation tool developed by MIT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, AI can already replace 11.7% of the U.S. labor market. That translates to $1.2 trillion in wages across finance, healthcare, and professional services.
Let me be direct: no job in legal is safe. Not associates. Not partners. Not paralegals. Not staff. The question is not whether your role will be affected. The question is whether you will be the one directing the transformation or the one being transformed out of existence.
