HiiL BarCamp

The Netherlands Embassy in South Africa and the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law, Southern Africa (HiiL) hereby cordially invite you to the “Barcamp for Justice”.

The Barcamp for Justice seeks to leverage the fourth industrial revolution technologies in combating the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa.

During the Barcamp for Justice, we will examine pressing problems and existing solutions, and through facilitated ideation sessions discuss and design potential applications which can be taken on to full development.
The event will take place in three morning sessions over the course of a week, Monday, Tuesday and Friday. We will commence with the introduction of successful justice innovations that have been supported by HiiL and hear from experts as to where innovation is needed in the field of GBV.

On the second day, we will host facilitated ideation sessions around a set of problem statements, and those participants wishing to participate in the challenge will form teams to build technological solutions to prevent or resolve GBV in South Africa.

On the fifth and final day, teams will present their solutions and votes will be cast for the best ideas to be taken forward. The best two (2) ideas will win a grant of ZAR20 000 each to put towards development, and will be granted automatic entry to the HiiL Innovation Fast Track (IFT) programme (in Q1, 2021).

You are welcome to attend the event as a competitor or as an observer if you are interested in access to justice and innovation and are keen to see the winning solutions.
The event will be held on Zoom from 5 – 9 Oct 20. Click here for registration and the full programme for each day: https://bit.ly/justicebarcamp
