neotelMTN and Neotel have appointed Plessey to co-build the planned national long-distance fibre optic network which the two companies announced earlier this year. Plessey, a Dimension Data company, has started construction of the first leg of the network that will extend from Gauteng to KwaZulu-Natal, incorporating Pietermaritzburg and Durban. When completed, the national fibre network will cover a distance of 5 000km, connecting the major centres across South Africa.
