Land and Agriculture Bank Hacked

After exfiltrating and encrypting files from the Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa’s servers during a ransomware attack in January 2026, hackers tried to extort R5.67 million in Bitcoin from the institution.

Finance minister Enoch Godongwana revealed the full extent of the breach in response to a Parliamentary question from MK’s Adil Nchabeleng about the cybersecurity incident.
