With the focus on African research, Sabinet proudly launched the new SA ePublications platform on September 2, 2016, at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Johannesburg. The Sabinet team, key stakeholders, thought leaders as well as Derek Watts shared in the excitement of the dynamic international platform – www.journals.co.za – enhanced with a desire to shape the future of African research.
The platform has extensive new features that clouts research efficacy; from an easy to use drop down menu, to streamlined search options and well-structured web pages. Discoverability is further amplified through third parties such as Google, Google Scholar, Ex Libris Primo Central, OCLC, Summon (Serials Solutions), CNKI, Baidu and now IngentaConnect.
Complementing functionality, the new responsive design – mobile optimized, embraces the digital information era and ensures easy access to content with new ecommerce facilities. Single articles can be purchased with the use of PayPal or a credit card, device pairing which allows users to connect anywhere and anytime, perfect for students and case researchers.
Personalised profiles and the option to share on social media platforms adds an extra feature to users in South Africa alone, 24 of the 26 universities make use of the service and 65 faculties and departments within these tertiary institutions publish scholarly journals. In the commercial field there is a range of 53 trade publications distributed in the industry and collectively there are 83 societies and associations who publish discipline-specific journals.
Interest in African Research continues to grow internationally with many prestigious international universities subscribing to the SA ePublications service. The new and enhanced platform further augments African research content to the entire world.
