It’s about that Lex-Informatica time again, Cyberlaw and information enthusiasts. And this year it is co-hosted by African Centre of Excellence for Information Ethics (ACEIE) of the University of Pretoria, and promises to be a blast once again.
This year’s discussion will be on the “Advancement of Cyberlaw and Information Ethics in Africa and Globally”, and the topics will range from Domain Name Resolution, Preservation of E-evidence, Social Networking – the “do’s” and “don’ts” and Electronic government to name a few.
Professor Murdoch Watney of the University of Johannesburg will be making a return appearance at Lex-Informatica. Professor Stephanie Burton, the Vice Principal of UP will be opening the proceedings and speaking on Convergence of Technology and the Law, to be followed by the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development – Mr Andries Nel on Advancement of Cyberlaw in Africa and Globally.
The 2013 conference will be a two-day affair consisting of five panels running from April 4 to 5th of 2013; with Coetzee Bester of the ACEIE and Sizwe Snail of Snail Attorneys @ Law and Lex-Informatica, chairing the sessions. Professor Sanette Nel of University of South Africa (UNISA) also makes a welcome comeback following her appearance last year, following up on the Online Defamation – recent Facebook decision, with Lenja Dahms-Jansen, an Associate at Bowman touching on the Legal Aspects of Social Media.
Represented at the conference will be Spoor and Fisher Attorneys, Infology South Africa and the University of Zululand. Internationally, Dr Maicibi Alhas of the African Centre for Cyberlaw and Cybercrime Prevention, along with Doga Akyurek, a PhD student from Brunel Law School of Brunel University London, will be attending and presenting.
