The Records Section of the Law Society is inundated with applications by members for Fidelity Fund certificates for 2013.
Many of these applications can however not be processed in view of the fact that members have failed to comply with the lawful requirements of the Law Society in that they have not submitted proof of registration of their practices with the Financial Intelligence Centre as required in terms of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, number 38 of 2001. Registration must be done electronically at www.fic.gov.za.
Attention is drawn to the fact that, in terms of Section 41(1) of the Attorneys Act, a practitioner may not practise unless he/she is in possession of a Fidelity Fund certificate.
